As part of our 55th season anniversary celebrations, Dave Taylor the former Chair of our League, came up with an interesting and exciting addition to our league competition portfolio which aimed to address the under-representation of the leagues more senior players (for many varied reasons) in the many regular league competitions.
In the 2006-7 season, Dave took it upon himself to sponsor this new and exclusive annual competition which is exclusively for players in the league who are over 55 years of age.
In any given season, there are about 80 - about a third of all players - such age group players in our league and the number is increasing each and every year as we struggle to ‘backfill’ with youngsters at the same rate.
Before the sad demise of the club at the end of the 2007-8 season, players competed at Knutsford Bowling club in groups in a format similar to the Redwood Hire competition where group winners qualified through to knock-out final stages.
While it has taken a couple of season’s for the competition to find it’s place in the calendar, the matches are now played at Knutsford Conservative club where they are just as keenly contested.
